Brenda Blethyn lands role in Nicolas Cage movie
12/20/01Brenda Blethyn and Mena Suvari will star in Nicolas Cage's first film as a director. They will play opposite James Franco, who stars as Sonny in Pony Ride. It is about a male hustler who joins the army to try to get out of his family's gigolo lifestyle and get a real job. When he's discharged, Sonny visits his family in New Orleans to look for work Blethyn plays his mother, who is determined to bring him back to the family business. Suvari plays a prostitute working for Sonny's mother who is sympathetic to his plight.

The film is about an Iowa state trooper aiming for retribution over his daughter's death. Nicolas Cage takes title role in supernatural thriller
10/25/01Nicolas Cage will play the title role in the movie Constantine. The supernatural thriller is based on the US comic book Hellblazer. Constantine will be directed by Tarsem Singh, who also directed The Cell. It will be the second time Cage has attempted to play a comic book hero. He was set to play Superman four years ago, but the project was scrapped. Constantine will go into production in March next year.
Windtalkers removed from London Film Festival line-up
10/06/01Nicolas Cage's new film has been removed from the schedule of this year's London Film Festival. Director John Woo and several of the cast were expected to attend the gala screening of Windtalkers on November 15. The decision was taken after the film's American release was put back until next year. According to www.hollywoodreporter.com Windtalkers will be replaced in the Festival's line-up by Bandits which was already due to be screened. The film's director Barry Levinson and Bruce Willis are expected to travel to London for the screening.
Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley to marry 'right away'
10/05/01Nicolas Cage and Lisa Marie Presley are reportedly planning to get married as soon as possible. The couple have only been dating for five months. They say the September 11 terrorist attacks have made them realise they want to be together. "Lisa told me 'Nic and I don't want to wait another minute. We're going to get married right away.'" Cage was previously married to Patricia Arquette while Presley was married to Michael Jackson.

Dinner to honour Nicolas Cage postponed
09/14/01A Hollywood dinner in honour of Nicolas Cage has been postponed due to the US terrorist attacks. The American Cinematheque event was due to take place at the Beverly Hilton on September 22. Cage was due to be presented with the 16th Annual Cinematheque Award at the event, to mark his film career. American Cinematheque is a non-profit public cinema in Hollywood that exhibits film and video from around the world. After the postponement of the dinner, director Barbara Smith told www.hollywoodreporter: "I think we all felt the same way. It was not a moment to gather because nobody feels like celebrating." The event will be rescheduled.
Warner negotiates rights to film sci-fi comic
08/24/01Warner Brothers is negotiating the rights to adapt a sci-fi comic for the cinema. Nicolas Cage is being lined up to star in Hard Boiled. It was published by Dark Horse Comics in 1992. The story concerns a killer robot that thinks it is a tax collector. Warner has spent the summer working out a deal to secure the rights for Hard Boiled, reports Variety.
Nicolas Cage doubtful for Ghost Rider movie08/22/01Nicolas Cage now seems unlikely to star in the movie Ghost Rider. The star was in talks to appear in the film about a motorcycle stunt rider who sells his soul to the Devil to save his girlfriend's life. But he has reportedly pulled out of the project. Speaking to the Cinescape website, Cage said the project is up in the air after the proposed director, Stephen Norrington, committed himself to shooting Jennifer Lopez's next film, Tick Tock. Cage said: "I don't know what's going to happen with Ghost Rider right now, we were going to go, and I don't know what happened. So now I'm not doing it."
