The Dance (Universal Studios, Saturn Films, Haynes-Geadelmann Pictures) (starring Nicolas Cage and Fifty Cent)
The product of alcoholism, abuse, and neglect, Louisiana native Billy Roth was sent to live with relatives at the age of four. Taught to box by an uncle who raised him for a short while, by the time he was 16, he was boxing inmates at the notorious Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. Juggled between homes and cities, he disappeared into the world of amateur, and later professional, boxing, while his father slowly drank himself to death.
The Dance is a hypnotic, unflinching look at the past four decades of the remarkable life of Billy Roth, from his amateur and professional boxing victories, to his tireless efforts as a volunteer coach and referee in the Louisiana prison system, to his role as surrogate father to men convicted of armed robbery, manslaughter, and murder. When he could have given in to self-pity or despair, he used the only tool he had to build a life for himself. In the process, he has transformed the lives of many, many more.
The Dance combines a visually stunning look inside the country's most dangerous prisons, along with music from world class blues, gospel and bluegrass musicians, and first hand accounts from inmates, former students, and Billy himself, the man thousands of convicted felons call "Pops." One day, he dreams that one of his students will become world champion - to make it to "The Dance." And it seems that dream just may be within reach.

Nicolas Cage to shoot movie in Melbourne
HOLLYWOOD star Nicolas Cage will spend autumn in Melbourne shooting his latest film, Knowing.
Pre-production has begun on the thriller, with Cage due to arrive for the start of filming in late March.
The 44-year-old Oscar-winning actor is expected to spend most of the autumn in the Victorian capital during the four-month shoot. Cage plays a teacher who opens a time capsule that has been dug up at his son's primary school and discovers some chilling predictions. The feature will be directed by Australian Alex Proyas, whose credits include the Will Smith action adventure I, Robot.
"Nicolas Cage is no stranger to Melbourne, having filmed his box office hit Ghost Rider here in 2005,'' Film Victoria chief executive Sandra Sdraulig said. "He enjoyed his time in Melbourne and we are excited he is returning to make Knowing.'' Victorian Minister for Innovation Gavin Jennings said the film would generate at least $45 million for the state's economy and employ more than 1000 local personnel.

Nicolas Cage coming back Down Under to film Knowing
NICOLAS Cage is set for another stint in Melbourne, this time filming the new thriller Knowing. Cage spent several months in Melbourne in 2005 shooting Ghost Rider.
Shooting on Knowing is due to start in March with Sydney director Alex Proyas at the helm.
Proyas -- a prolific television commercial and music video director -- has had feature film success with The Crow, Dark City and the Will Smith hit I, Robot.
Knowing is about a teacher who discovers chilling prophecies inside a time capsule at his child's school. While in Melbourne in 2005, Cage visited various animal parks and enjoyed dinners at the Botanical in South Yarra.
"I managed to enjoy a couple of tours of the different sanctuaries and I got to see the animals up close. That was fantastic," he told the Herald Sun this month.
The Knowing shoot comes on the heels of the Tom Hanks-Steven Spielberg TV series The Pacific, which brought $180 million and 4000 jobs.

Nicolas Cage Wants Ghost Rider Sequel
Nicolas Cage had never made a sequel until National Treasure: Book of Secrets. Now, that franchise seems to have whet his appetite to return to other characters too. The most likely candidate would be the comic book superhero Ghost Rider.
"All they have to do is call," said Cage. "I would love to see that happen. That would be fun."
Presumably, Mark Steven Johnson and Avi Arad have Cage on speed dial. They will, however, have to follow his mandate. "If I think there's room to grow with the character and if you can make it better than the original, absolutely."
Making the sequel better than the original might not be too hard a feat, considering that critics gave Ghost Rider a 27 percent Tomatometer rating. Then again, it made $45 million in its opening weekend run.
